About the Event
National expert educators, Tovi C. Scruggs-Hussein & Supt. Itoco Garcia are proud to partner with San Luis Coastal Unified to collaborate in a unique, professional learning experience designed to build your cultural proficiency and equity leadership capacity to disrupt systems of inequity so that we can achieve better outcomes for the students and families we serve. Â This institute is a coherent series designed for educators of all levels, board members, and community leaders to come together and forge new belief systems to create new skill sets to be better leaders, advocates, and allies in the work of educational equity and properly and fully serve the diverse needs of our communities.
This work is about inclusion, belonging, and healing. All of the skills we will engage in can be applied to serve all marginalized groups. This means we will explore not only race, but delve into gender, LGBTQ, disabilities, religion, and language.
Further, addressing the work of equity to be proactive and systemically transformational, we must address some of the greatest barriers to being leaders of equity: our own fears, beliefs, and ways of being that prevent us from being more resilient and healing from the educational trauma in our systems. There are numerous supplemental readings and we will also utilize The Racial Healing Handbook as a key text to explore together.
